What to Expect at Activate Chiropractic

First Visit and Insight Scans Explained

At Activate Chiropractic, we’re committed to helping you and your family thrive by supporting your nervous system—the body’s master communication network. Our approach is both neurologically focused and data-driven, allowing us to take the guesswork out of chiropractic care.

One of the ways we ensure precision and effectiveness in your care is through our use of INSiGHT scanning technology. These non-invasive scans give us real, measurable data about how your body is functioning and where it may need help.

Your First Visit: Setting the Foundation

During your first appointment, we begin with a comprehensive consultation to understand your health history, goals, and current concerns. From there, we perform a series of scans using the INSiGHT system to establish a baseline of how your nervous system is functioning.

This objective data helps us do more than just detect symptoms—it helps us identify specific areas of subluxation (misalignments or dysfunctions in the spine that interfere with nerve communication). These are the areas where your nervous system may be under stress, preventing your body from functioning at its best.

Our Three Foundational Scans

To get a complete picture of your nervous system’s function, we use three primary technologies:

1. Surface Electromyography (sEMG)

What It Measures: The sEMG scan measures the electrical activity of the muscles along your spine. It reveals how well your brain and spinal cord are communicating with the muscles that support posture, movement, and coordination.

What It Tells Us: This scan shows us where your muscles are overactive, underactive, or imbalanced—often a direct result of subluxation and stress within the nervous system. High energy readings may indicate a system stuck in “fight or flight” mode, while low, unorganized activity often reflects exhaustion or shutdown. These patterns are especially common in children dealing with anxiety, ADHD, developmental delays, or sensory challenges. Dr. Libby uses this data to identify where neuromuscular stress is stored and how it may be affecting function, mood, and development.

2. Thermal Scanning (Thermography)

What It Measures: Thermography detects temperature differences along the spine, which are influenced by the autonomic nervous system. This is the part of the nervous system that regulates internal functions such as digestion, immune activity, and hormone balance.

What It Tells Us: By analyzing thermal patterns, we can identify areas of the nervous system that may be overwhelmed or underperforming, even in the absence of symptoms. For example, thermal scans often show irregular patterns in patients dealing with colic, constipation, chronic ear infections, sleep disturbances, and other stress-related issues. When the scan shows areas of temperature imbalance or asymmetry, it signals where autonomic regulation is being disrupted. Dr. Libby uses this information to target care that supports improved internal balance and healing.

3. Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

What It Measures: HRV tracks the timing between heartbeats, giving us insight into how well your body handles stress and recovers from it. A healthy nervous system should be flexible, or able to shift between “fight or flight” and “rest and repair” as needed.

What It Tells Us: A low or unbalanced HRV score can reveal that your nervous system is under chronic stress and struggling to adapt. This is common in individuals experiencing anxiety, sleep issues, fatigue, or emotional regulation challenges. For many children, HRV also helps explain behavioral rigidity or meltdowns by showing just how taxed their system really is. As care progresses, we can monitor HRV improvements alongside shifts in mood, sleep, behavior, and energy.

Turning Data Into Action

At Activate Chiropractic, we don’t guess—we assess. Each scan gives us a unique lens into your health, but together, they form a powerful roadmap. Dr. Libby interprets the combined results to:

    • Locate areas of subluxation
    • Identify patterns of neurological stress or dysfunction
    • Understand how your body is managing stress and recovery
    • Prioritize and personalize your chiropractic adjustments

These insights allow us to deliver care that is not only precise and gentle—but also measurable. You’ll see and feel the difference as your nervous system begins to heal and adapt.

Why Objective Scanning Matters

Our INSiGHT scans are:

    • Safe and non-invasive for all ages, including infants and pregnant women
    • Quick, often completed in just a few minutes
    • Reproducible, giving us the ability to track your progress over time

By using validated, neurologically-focused technology, we can deliver care with confidence—and help you better understand the changes happening inside your body.
